Yet,
while the other FGs could only talk about
their newfound fame or professional athlete
boyfriends, Jlo spoke of the love she held
in her heart for her unassuming fiancé
–- which incidentally was the reason
I didn’t ditch all aspects of being
a professional journalist and ask for her
telephone number.
After gushing about her man, however, Jlo
switched gears and began to talk about a
desire to springboard her career to lofty
heights.
“I like being a Fly Girl,” she
said, “but I don’t want to be
known as only a Fly Girl. There’s
so many things I want to do. I just want
to use this opportunity to do more.”

And
while you’d be hard pressed to trace
the careers of the other, more attractive
FGs, the 36-year-old Lopez went from being
a glorified extra as a Fly Girl to an entertainer-turned-business
icon who unquestionably became an island unto
herself.
Her list of accomplishes is impressive: Since
1986 she’s appeared in over 20 films,
owns a clothing line which features lingerie,
juniors, plus size and kid’s gear, pitches
self-named perfumes, owns a Cuban food restaurant
and has recorded four full-length music projects.
Her
newest CD, Rebirth, features cameos by Fabolous,
Fat Joe and hubby March Anthony, while songs
like “Cherry Pie” and “Hold
You Down” will undoubtedly provide Lopez
fans with enough fuel to feed their unquenchable
thirst for all things Jlo. Still, some music
industry professionals think Jlo’s singing
career is headed toward mediocrity.
“Based on her new single ‘Get
Right,’ she hasn’t changed much,”
said Billy Johnson, jr., an editor at a popular
music magazine. “That song doesn’t’
show her growth. It sounds like she picked
up exactly where she’s left off. ‘Get
Right’ isn’t as good as some of
her other hits but it’s okay. I will
admit that she’s still a good dancer.
I was actually impressed with her dance moves
in the video. I mean, she’s not 20-years-old.”
First married in her 20s, Lopez walked down
the aisle and married three different men,
was engaged to a fourth (Ben Affleck) and
involved in a highly publicized relationship
with Sean “P. Diddy” Combs before
marrying current mate Latin singer Marc Anthony.
Arguably one of the sexiest women in the entertainment
industry today, Jlo said that being sexy isn’t
always an excuse to be sexual. |
